FULLERTON — Two people were killed early Monday when a wrong-way driver slammed into another vehicle on the I-5 freeway, authorities said.
The crash was reported around 3:20 a.m. on the freeway north of the 91, said California Highway Patrol Officer Monica Posada. A wrong-way driver traveling north in the southbound lane crashed into another vehicle heading south, she added.
The drivers of both vehicles died at the scene. Information about the identities of the drivers, the make and models of their vehicles, and whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash was not immediately available. One of the vehicles caught fire.
All lanes except the carpool lane remained closed at the crash site Monday morning, Posada said.
The crash remains under investigation.
