All India Ranking Badminton: Third time lucky for unseeded Malvika

MUMBAI: It was third time lucky for Malvika Bansod. After losing twice in the finals of All India Ranking tournaments, the 15-year-old city shuttler finally clinched the elusive crown when she triumphed in All India Junior Ranking Badminton tournament at Chennai on Sunday.

In an exciting U-19 girls singles summit clash, unseeded Malvika stunned third seed Ashmita Chaliha of Assam 12-21, 21-19, 21-13 in 40 minutes to record perhaps the biggest victory of her career so far.

Last month at Jodhpur, Malvika had lost to Prashi Joshi of Delhi in the U-17 girls singles final.

In the U-15 girls singles final at the All India Sub-Junior Ranking tournament, Malvika had lost to Gayatri Pullela Gopichand in three games at Gulbarga. After winning the first game against Gayatri, Malvika had a match point in the second game but could not convert it.
