Clay Millican finally gets his first NHRA Top Fuel win

Ron Capps picked up his fifth win in seven races in Funny Car, but it was his first since Kansas back in May. The Don Schumacher racing driver qualified a disappointing 10th, but was able to defeat Alexis DeJoria, Robert Hight and Matt Hagan en route to the final where he took on Jack Beckman. Beckman got down the track quicker but Capps took the win on a Holeshot. The two also faced each other in the final last weekend, with Beckman taking home the win.

“We’ve gotten a few lucky rounds, but it’s been preparation in the off season,” said Capps. “We had runs on Sunday against four of the toughest cars, drivers and crew chiefs combined. You read down the list of people we had to beat in a new car that was prepared. There are not very many teams that are that prepared to pull a car out and have a quicker set-up than we were.”
