Ex-Manchester United assistant Carlos Queiroz backs Nelo Vingada at Malaysia

Carlos Queiroz worked with Nelo Vingada at Portugal U20 and with Iran’s national side.

Former Manchester United assistant boss Carlos Queiroz has given his vote of confidence to Nelo Vingada, despite the Malaysia’s new national coach making a losing start.

Portugal’s Vingada saw his first game in charge end in a costly 2-1 defeat at home to Lebanon in 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifying on Tuesday.

But current Iran manager Quieroz, who worked alongside Vingada as Portugal won consecutive Under-20 World Cups in 1989 and 1991, has backed his compatriot to succeed.

“I have been to Malaysia a few times and Malaysia is another country that needs to be shaken, and Nelo is the right man to do that,” Queiroz said in comments posted on the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) Facebook page.
