Gosha Rubchinskiy brings back the Burberry lad

It’s 11.44pm, let’s watch a fashion show! Such events happen when you fly to St Petersburg during the white nights of summer, the sun barely ever setting. Gosha Rubchinskiy staged his spring/summer 18 show in an old club in the city, where in 1989 the first ever rave in Russia was held. It’s easy to be blasé about these things. Post perestroika, what a radical cultural act that must have been.

Rubchinskiy’s show was the second of a planned triumvirate collaborating with Adidas in the lead-up to next summer’s Russian World Cup. He was looking at rave culture, its links to football. The collection was great. Oversized logo T-shirts with extended sleeves Baggy jeans belted to stay put at the waist. Football kit with Adidas spelt out in Cyrillic. Shell suit zip-ups. Short shorts. Plaid or striped tailoring cut with youthful lightness.
